VALLEY RANCH, TX – Nine local Girl Scouts were recognized on April 26 by Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) at his district office. The Girl Scouts were honored for their achievement of the Girl Scout Gold Award, considered the highest award that a Girl Scout aged fourteen to eighteen may earn.
Each Gold Award honoree received a signed certificate of special congressional recognition, a bouquet of flowers and an engraved medal and display case honoring their achievement.
Marchant congratulated the girls for their accomplishment and predicted bright futures for all of the award winners.
“Your exemplary performance and dedicated service in Girl Scouts has made a profound impact on the community. You have proven yourself worthy of this award, and I am confident you will all be lifelong leaders not only in your home communities, but across the world,” said Marchant.
Girl Scout honorees included: Sydney Shrum of Grapevine, Farah Jooma of Lewisville, Shannon Michael of Coppell, Carolyn Kulig of Coppell, Kelsey Temple of Coppell, Molly Jarrel of North Richland Hills, Nicole Gaither of Southlake, Alexa Polaski of Southlake and Rebecca Simpson of Southlake. Attendees also included adult Girl Scout leaders, parents and friends.
Each of the Scouts completed a community project to achieve the esteemed Gold Award status. Projects included volunteering at churches and hospitals, developing outdoor programs for kids, making fleece blankets for traumatized children, assisting displaced families by floods and several other community fulfilling acts.
The ceremony was open to all Scouts in Congressional District 24 who have recently achieved the Gold Award by the Girl Scouts of the United States of America.
