Real. Texas. Festival. a Real. Big. Success., with Almost 12,000 People Attending this Year’s Event, in Spite of Challenging Weather Conditions
MESQUITE, TEXAS – In spite of poor weather, this year’s Real. Texas. Festival. was a Real. Big. Success., even if attendance for this year’s event did not exceed last year’s first year attendance numbers. According to festival coordinator, Daren Watkins, “Given the challenges of coping with two rains in three days that were caused by cold fronts moving through the Metroplex, and the unusually cold/damp conditions that we had to endure on Sunday, I’m thrilled that we had almost as many festival attendees as we did for last year’s inaugural event. To have hosted approximately 12,000 people over the weekend, especially given Sunday’s cold and wet conditions, and to have spoken with festival attendees personally and observed the genuinely good time they all seemed to have had, I know that we are on the right track and feel good about the direction the festival is moving. Additionally, I’m also very proud of the job that our staff and volunteers played in the smooth operations of this year’s event, especially given our challenging circumstances.”
Some of this year’s 2008 Real.Texas.Festival. highlights include:
- Our first ever “Taste of Mesquite” Barbecue Cook-Off presented by the Mesquite Service League was a big success, and included more than 25 contestants vying for prize money and big time bragging rights.
- Our first-ever Dodge Real. Texas. Customs. Car Show was also a huge success and included more than 80 cars on exhibit.
- Great attendance was enjoyed by the rodeo
- According to an onsite survey, more than half of festival attendees were from outside of Mesquite.
