Over $24,000 was raised for the Richardson Woman’s Club’s Scholarship Endowment Fund at the April 18th Golf Tournament held at SherrillPark. This was all made possible by the generous and enthusiastic help of our sponsors, patrons and players. The City of Richardson, RISD, and PISD were early supporters. Numerous area businesses sent teams, sponsored holes, and furnished prizes. Great sack lunches were contributed by Main Street Bistro Baking Company, and a fabulous dinner, donated by the Silver Fox Restaurant, was served in the Sherrill Park Pavilion.
The J. J. Pearce Pacesetters entertained the players and club members with a high kick routine to help “Kick Off” play, and then it was off to the carts to await the start signal. Nineteen teams were vying for those cash prizes and, of course, everyone wanted to get a hole-in-one and win a new Chevrolet. All the players took home a souvenir photo of their team.
Ways and Means Chair, Mary Boyter, organized a wonderful event and all the participants said they were eagerly waiting to play again next year. Richardson Mayor, Steve Mitchell, stopped by to lend his support. The winners were announced at the Afterglow, with the City of Richardson team out playing everyone to take first place. The Silver Fox group won second and First United Methodist, third. Then it was time for the Silent Auction winners to pay up and take their treasurers home.
Barbara O’Dell said “Our team had so much fun that we didn’t want the day to end, so we all went to one of our homes which backs up to Sherrill Park and watched the sun go down. A great day for all; even though we didn’t win!” That pretty well summed it up.
Through various fund raising activities the Club has raised $96,000 for philanthropic causes this year. The Woman’s Club thanks everyone who helped make this event, as well as the others, such a big success. We look forward to awarding scholarships from the endowment fund in the coming years.
