It is Saturday morning and our daughter is getting us up for practice.  Girls and their families from around the Metroplex are doing the same thing but only a small percentage is going to synchronized swimming.

The Metroplex is home to the Pirouettes of Texas a competitive synchronized swimming team drawing athletes from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Founded in 1985 by coach Patti Barton, the Pirouettes of Texas (PTX) members enter all levels of age group competitions and national meets.

On Thursday, June 19th PTX is performing a free exhibition at Northlake College’s Natatorium, located at Northlake College, Irving, TX., their home pool.  This free event is from 6:30 – 8:00pm.  Come see swimmers that will be competing at National Age Group Championships in Binghamton, New York and the US Open in Cleveland, Ohio.

Synchronized swimming first became recognized as a competitive sport in the U.S. in 1945.  "Synchro" débuted at the XXIII Olympiad in Los Angeles in 1984. Since that time, the U.S. has dominated the sport in the Olympics. At the 1996 games in Atlanta, the team was included for the first time.  If you know of a child looking for an interesting, demanding, graceful and fun sport PTX is offering “Intro to Synchro” which is sponsored by the City of Irving at North Lake Natatorium, Saturdays 8 –9:30am.  PTX is conducting two sessions at a nominal $50 per session, June 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th.  The second session is also on Saturdays, July 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th.  Classes are open to swimmers age 8 thru 18.  Must be deep-water safePlease visit www.ptxsynchro.org for further information.
