Rambunctious, Rogue and Rapscallion is a new book, featuring a trio of talkative raccoons, written by Mary Ney Gilhooly, a long-time resident of East Dallas. The whimsical raccoon story is one of several fanciful tales which include a pet fawn, a goat that’s always in trouble, flowers from heaven, and a socially ambitious frog named Freddy. There are also a water sprite named Pixie and a knight who won a surprising battle.
Rambunctious, Rogue and Rapscallion is Mary’s third book, the first written for young readers. For beginning readers, as well as sophisticated pre-teens, the book will be fun to read. Children will respond to the prose which flows with its own rhythm. The prose is simple and well-constructed language. Little ones will want to have the stories read to them, again and again. Two of the stories have been read to grade school children and they enjoyed them. They asked for more. The book will be enjoyable summer reading. It is also a great gift idea.
The stories are a mix of fun and games, pets, and a touch of make-believe. For parents reading to their young children, it can be childhood revisited. An occasional word may be a vocabulary-builder for youngsters, and if a life lesson is learned along the way, that’s fine too.
Rambunctious, Rogue and Rapscallion is available at $9.95 online at the Authorhouse.com bookstore or from the author at MaryvalePress@aol.com or (214) 363-8398.
