For the first time, the Flower Mound High School Junior ROTC unit received the Air Force JROTC 2007-2008 Distinguished Unit Award from the Department of the Air Force, AirUniversity. Established in 2001, our seven year-old unit has claimed a position in the top one-third percentile of all Junior ROTC units. This award recognizes the personal growth and accomplishments of a unit’s cadets, having distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community, and building better citizens for America. Out of 879 Junior ROTC units worldwide, only 328 units were selected to receive the prestigious award. Furthermore, the Flower Mound High School unit was one of 79 units selected, out of the 328, to receive the Outstanding Unit Award, with Merit. The Junior ROTC program is located in high schools across the continental United States, as well as selected schools in Europe, in the Pacific, and Puerto Rico. Today, the Junior ROTC program’s international enrollment exceeds 102,000 students.

            In addition, the Flower Mound Junior ROTC unit has been busy demonstrating pride for its community. The unit’s Drill Team once again returned home from the CorsicanaHigh School drill competition with a first place trophy to add to the growing collection. The weekend after the unit’s victory, many of the unit’s cadets assisted at the Cross Timber’s Rehabilitation and HealthcareCenter, escorting the nursing home’s residents in their annual fashion show. The unit will continue expanding its legacy beyond the school year, living up to FlowerMoundHigh School’s motto, “A world class school educating tomorrow’s leaders.”
