Pullen students, family and staff members are selling raffle tickets in support of one of their favorite Pullen teachers. In November, kindergarten teacher Sarah McReynolds gave birth to a baby girl, Ellie, who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Due to the severity of Ellie’s illness and the degree of attention needed for her care, Mrs. McReynolds has been unable to return to work.

       As a result, Pullen students, parents and administrators pulled together to raise money on behalf of the McReynold’s family to help supplement the financial burden they are now facing as a result of loss of work and extensive medical costs.

      “One of Mrs. McReynold’s parents, Delia Dura, approached me a few months ago wanting to do something for Sarah’s family. She single handedly organized the whole event. Several of our student council members as well as some of Mrs. McReynold’s students volunteered to help sell tickets. It is important to our Pullen family to be supportive of each other. I appreciate Mrs. Dura’s leadership, compassion, and initiative.” 

     On May 9th and May 12th, students were out in front of the school selling raffle tickets from 7:30 -8 a.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Some of the prizes donated for the raffle included rounds of golf at Buffalo Creek, Remarkable Care massage, tanning and weight loss sessions, and dinner for four at Joe Willy’s Restaurant.

     Cystic Fibrosis is a serious disease caused by a genetic abnormality; there are about one thousand new cases diagnosed every year. For the parents of children diagnosed with this disease, it is a heartbreaking discovery.
