In honor of national Food Allergy Awareness Week (FAAW), the Lovejoy Daisy Girl Scout Troop learned how to be a PAL to their friends with food allergies, which includes one of their own Troop members. The PAL (Protect A Life) program is available through the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN).
The girls participated in the PAL lesson on food allergies and then completed coloring and activity sheets. They learned the top eight foods that cause food allergies and how they can help their friends avoid having a reaction, as well as what to do if someone does have a reaction. The snack for the meeting consisted of allergen free cookies and kettle corn. Each Daisy received a PAL Hero Award in recognition of her efforts.
