Murphy Middle School Dad’s Club held its 2nd annual Mavericks Open Golf Tournament at Pecan Hollow Golf Center on Friday, May 2. The tournament was a fundraiser for the PTA at Murphy Middle School.
Six teams of four golfers supported the fundraising cause to buy a new trophy case for the school. The teachers report the current cases are already full with sports and fine arts awards. Enough funds were raised to cover 100% of the costs of the new trophy case from this event
Golfer David Bell almost won a Chevy Malibu provided by Reliable Chevrolet by just missing a hole-in-one by a dozen inches are so. Longest Ball winner was Eric Hartter.
Team Darrel, led by Darrel Preston, MMS dad, won the tournament. Team members were Eric Hatter, Chris Gerrish, and Doug Ray. Michele Jones led the golf lesson winning team, also referred to the last place team. Team members were Chris Pyryt, Karen Kyle and Monica Brindza.
Chris Pyryt, Dad’s Club Chairman, was very proud to be a last place team member. He declared, “My team might golf the worst, but we won for having the best time. I have never laughed this much.”
Organizer, Dean Xeros, of Murphy Middle School Dad’s Club, declared the day a success. “This may be the second annual tournament but the first one was held 4 years ago. After today’s turnout, we can count on a golf tournament every year.”
Plans for a Dad’s Club Fall event are already in the works. All MMS dads are invited to join the Dad’s Club. Contact Dean Xeros at dxeros@aol.com for more information.
