On May 16th, the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands honored six Lake Highlands area teachers at their annual Teacher of the Year ceremony.  Among the recipients chosen this year was Lake Highlands Elementary’s own Hilary Puckett, receiving an award for her outstanding service as the schools Science Teacher.

The other five teachers honored were Jan Staats of Merriman Park Elementary, Kay Rushing of Thurgood Marshall Elementary, Gerren Adderley of Lake HIghlands Junior High, Stepanie Miller of Skyview Elementary, and Cara Tesla of Forest Meadows Junior High.  Along with a very nice placque, each teacher also received a check for $500.  On hand to present the awards were RISD Trustees David Tyson, Carol Kent, and Board President Luke Davis.

Hilary Puckett was surprised and happy to receive her award.  “My name was misspelled on my placque.  The nice Exchange Club folks were so sorry and wanted to take it back while they had another one engraved.  I said, that’s o.k., I’ll just hang on this one while you do that.”
