The best part of Jason Castro’s homecoming celebration was when Dawn and I rode aboard Seawolf with Jason, his family and friends. The 20 minutes or so seemed to pass by a little too quickly with Jason sailing the amazing yacht that Scott constructed himself.
As we glided across Lake Ray Hubbard, Dawn and I got a chance to take some photos with the Castros, chat with them and take in the lake breeze that we all desperately needed on the muggy day.
Even with my back turned to the Harbor as we got closer, I could feel the energy coming from behind me as fans chanted, screamed and cheered for the arrival of Jason to shore. Fans were in boats all around us that floated in close for a glimpse of Rockwall’s own Idol.
Once we got close enough, Scott took the helm so Jason could wave to all his fans. (The high voltage of screams increased with Jason’s every arm raise, step and glance in a different direction.)
To me, the site was absolutely amazing. Literally thousands of people were scattered all over the Harbor from balconies at the Hilton to the green hills in front of the stage where Jason was headed for a performance.
I was in shock. Jason kept his cool and continued smiling and waving to all the Dreadheads.
As we got a little closer I asked Jason, “what are you going to sing?”
He replied with, “I don’t know…” with a laugh. “Just kidding, yeah…I’m going to start off the show with ‘Daydream,’ then I’m going to do one of my own. I don’t know too many songs; that’s the hard thing right now…I’ve been cycling songs through, so it’s hard. I’m going to do ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow,’ and then ‘Deep in the Heart of Texas’ on the ukulele.”
He performed each of the songs and all were awesome! (Although, it seemed like the crowd’s favorite was “Deep in the Heart of Texas.”)
The concert was something out of a movie; there were screaming fans, crying girls, tons of posters and dreadhead wigs everywhere.
Before Jason sang his original song, he stated that he hoped the track would end up on his album. That’s right—a Jason Castro album.
Get excited, people; this is only the beginning!
