Zion Lutheran launches “Exploring Life Sports” program
Zion Lutheran School introduced a new sports program this year to be taught in conjunction with typical Physical Education classes. The purpose of the program is to introduce students to "Life Sports" specifically golf, tennis, rowing and cycling, most of which they can choose to pursue in their respective high schools once they graduate from Zion. The students had tennis lessons at Lakewood Country Club, golf lessons at Top Golf, a rowing class with the White Rock Rowing club and finally a cycling lesson through Richardson Bike Mart. The program was not a series of field trips or parties. Each program was taught by a professional in that field with information about the history, technology, rules and etiquette, followed by hands on experience.
“Many schools, including Zion, offer classic team sports such as soccer, basketball, etc.” stated Zion Athletic Director Wendy Munzel (Richardson resident). “But in addition to those sports, we want our students to experience a sport that many adults pursue in throughout their lives.”
