CMSE 7th Grade Students Participate in Duke University TIP Program
Recently, 28 CMSE students participated in Duke University's 7th Grade Talent Search Program, which began in 1980 and focuses on the identification, recognition, and support of high-ability students. These students took college entrance exams alongside high school students. One student, Betsy Dean, earned Grand recognition, which meant that she scored 660 or higher on the math SAT test, or 650 or higher on the critical reading SAT test, or have a combined score of 1270 or higher on both. A student qualifying for Grand Recognition is in the top 2%. Betsy Dean was recognized at the Grand Ceremony Duke University on May 21, 2008. Betsy Dean and 12 CMSE students achieved state recognition and were recognized at an awards ceremony on May 29 at University of North Texas.
The goal of the Talent Search Program is to assist young people with excellent mathematical or verbal aptitude. Students are provided with information about their abilities and introduced to a network of services and programs.
