Lowe’s is now open in Richardson

0 Ratings / 0 Comments

This weekend is the grand opening of the new Lowe’s at Richardson Square. The “mall” portion of the name was eliminated last year then the wrecking ball removed the need for the namesake.  The North Carolina based company’s new mega store is a whopping 117 thousand square foot, one of the largest in the area.

Before the announcement that the Richardson Square would be renovated to make way for the nationwide home improvement chain, a lot of the area neighbors were concerned that the old mall was really showing her age. Many, including myself feared the type of slow hemorrhage into oblivion that had occurred with such other area malls like Northtown, Prestonwood and Town East.

Being a close neighbor, (one block) I was delighted at the prospect that not only would Richardson Square get a new lease on life but, being a Master Gardener and a home improvement diy-guy, for me it will be double the benefit.

The grand opening date is Thursday June 26. I was told by René Birdall, new store coordinator, the nearly week long festivities will include drawings for gift cards and even a $1000 shopping spree. Being a homeowner that lives just north of the DFW area Ms. Birdall enjoys the new store openings because of all the special pricing on garden products and plants. The selection in this area is very impressive.

I got the tour form garden center specialist Howard Daniels, who is a Certified Nursery Professional with 25 year in the local retail garden trade. Mr. Daniels tells me, “We will be stocking the plants that are suited to our climate and soil.”

According to Lowe's a store of this size, on average, represents an investment in the community of approximately $18.5 million. Store manager Brian Washburn says the, “the store will employee about 130 people and stock more than 40,000 items.”

This is good news even more so from a sales tax basis, as Richardson will now benefit from the business that is generated from this new store.

The normal store hours will be 6a.m. to 10p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8a.m. to 8p.m. on Sundays. Okay men, get really to shop, we have a new guy store in town.
