More than 470 children from age 3 to grade 6 and approximately 250 youth and adult volunteers recently wrapped up a week-long Power Lab Vacation Bible School and Day Camp, June 23-27, at First United Methodist Church of Allen.
During the week long, half-day event, participants learned about the power of Jesus through science experiments, music, crafts, and lessons from the Bible.
Everyday, children brought gifts of food and cash to support the church's 2008 mission focus, Allen Community Outreach. Together they raised $1,388 to help serve ACO clients and collected more than 1,000 food items to replenish ACO's food banks.
To reward them for their efforts and generosity,Youth Director Rick Ostroski had his head shaved by camp directors during the closing worship service, much to the delight of a sanctuary full of children, youth, and adults.
VBS comes to an official close on Sunday, June 29, for a special Children's Sabbath worship at 8:30am, 9:45am or 11:00am. Campers will lead worship by singing their favorite camp songs. At 12:30pm, FUMC Allen hosts a VBS/Day Camp celebration in the gym with a catered BBQ meal, games and crafts.
