Famous athletes, celebrities, and others gathered to play in the seventh annual Reebok Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game Saturday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco. The Red Socks, managed by Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs defeated the Black Socks, managed by baseball legend Fred Lynn by a final score of 21-9. Money raised benefited the children’s charities of the Heroes Foundation YOUniversity Program and the Mike Modano Foundation.
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban headlined the Red Sox team along with Dallas Stars’ great Mike Modano and Mavericks guard Jason Terry. The Black Sox were led by National Football League Hall of Famer and current ESPN 103.3 FM Radio host Michael Irvin and current Dallas Cowboys pass rusher DeMarcus Ware.
The Heroes Foundation YOUniversity Program provides constructive opportunities through all of its programs for at-risk inner-city youth to learn the finer points of team sports and participate in educational and cultural curriculums that build self-esteem and give them hope for a much brighter future. In addition, the Mike Modano Foundation is dedicated to raising funds to improve the lives of at-risk and under-served children in the Dallas area, specifically children who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected.
A record attendance of 6,523 fans watched the game.
