Dinner Raises Money and Awareness for the Richardson Regional Cancer Center

1 Rating / 0 Comments
The “Cancer Should Not Have the Last Word – Count Us In!” Capital Campaign hosted a three-course dinner on June 26 at the Chocolate Angel Cafe and Tea Room benefiting the Richardson Regional Cancer Center, an affiliate of UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Campaign Co-Chairs, Cynthia Noah and Bonnie Perry, were joined by more than 75 people who filled the small restaurant to show their support. This is the first in a series of fundraising dinners at local restaurants to be announced in the next few weeks.

The event received rave reviews.

“The Chocolate Angel event was truly outstanding,” said Marion McDaniel, community leader and a member of the Capital Campaign committee. “I was happy to be there and to help raise money for such a worthy cause. The addition of the new Cancer Center is crucial for the entire North Texas area.”

Holly Woodruff, president of the Chamberlain Performing Arts Guild in Plano, said, “It was a delightful event with wonderful friends, superb food at a quaint venue for a cause that will benefit many others now and in the future!"

The new 50,000-square-foot comprehensive Richardson Regional Cancer Center is scheduled to open this October, sitting on a 20.5-acre campus that also includes an existing physician pavilion, and a 47,000-square-foot outpatient hospital currently under construction. The site is located at 2821 E. President George Bush Highway at Renner Road in East Richardson.

“As a self-proclaimed ‘professional patient’ and survivor, I realize how important this facility will be to the North Texas area,” said Lois Ferrara, six-time cancer survivor and tri-chair of the Cancer Center’s Speakers Bureau committee. “I am committed to helping the effort until the doors open. We all need to do our part to make a difference in the fight against cancer.”

The center will provide cancer patients with an array of diagnostic equipment, new drug therapies as part of clinical research programs and numerous treatment options. Residents living in North Texas will be able to stay close to home and have access to physicians in medical, surgical and radiation oncology.
