07/15/08 UPDATE: SIGNAL REMOVAL POSTPONED
The Texas Department of Transportation has scheduled removal of the temporary traffic signal controlling the “T” intersection of Morning Star and State Highway 121 in The Colony. This traffic signal is planned to be removed on Wednesday, July 16, 2008. At the same time, Morning Star at S.H. 121 will be reduced to one lane with a stop sign for motorists wishing to access southbound S.H. 121.
This signal was initially slated for removal in 2006, but the removal was delayed to the end of the S.H. 121 construction schedule at the request of The Colony. The S.H. toll way and frontage road project is anticipated to be substantially completed, and the main lanes placed into service within The Colony, in early September, 2008.
Motorists using Morning Star to access S.H. 121 should be mindful to look for substantial gaps in traffic before attempting to enter the toll way frontage road at this location. With these changes, vehicles approaching Morning Star on S.H. 121 will flow freely through the intersection and may be traveling at speeds approaching 60 mph. Please use caution as motorists adjust to the new intersection conditions.
The Colony motorists using this intersection during morning rush periods should expect significant delays until the toll way main lanes are placed into service; a period of approximately six weeks. Residents may wish to consider other access alternatives at Cascades Court, South Colony Boulevard, or full access under traffic control at the S.H. 121 and Paige Road/Plano Parkway interchange.
Please continue to pay attention to construction barrels and barricades throughout the construction zone as this TxDOT/NTTA project nears completion.
