Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration receives $350k gift, $80k grant

0 Ratings / 0 Comments

The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration continues construction on its new South Building thanks in part to a generous gift by the Embry Family Foundation.

The gift of $350,000 will fund a multi-purpose room in the final phase of the building program. The multi-purpose room, the chapel and the sacristy expansion, along with an attractive new west-facing entrance for those using the west and south parking lots, are all part of the church’s significant space expansion. The Embry Family Foundation gift, along with the gifts already pledged for the new chapel and sacristy expansion, will help move the church closer to completing the vision for the “Building-on-the-Hill” that their earliest members had more than forty years ago.

In addition to their gift for the building, the Embry Family Foundation also awarded Transfiguration a grant in the amount of $80,000 to establish a Center for study in the areas of human rights, justice and peace.

Mr. J. Lindsey Embry was one of the founding members of Transfiguration, and it was through his concern for the parish when its property on White Rock Creek so frequently flooded that the first five acres atthe corner of Hillcrest and Spring Valley Roads was purchased.  Not long after the congregation moved to its current site, Mr. Embry also purchased the back five acres (the portion of the property on which the nave and sanctuary are built) and gave it to the church on a perpetual lease.

This building program includes:

  • A new pipe organ
  • Centralized and proper vesting, storage and rehearsal facilities for music ministries
  • Dedicated space for children’s programs
  • Additional meeting rooms
  • An expanded sacristy
  • A beautiful chapel will allow for smaller and more intimate worship experiences
