International experts of the toll industry convened in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex July 13 through 15 to discuss all-electronic toll collection, or open road tolling, and its impact on the transportation industry.
The 450 attendees from about 20 countries of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association’s (IBTTA), Special Summit on Open Road Tolling had an opportunity to explore all-electronic toll collection from several standpoints – customer service, rating agency, human resource, communications as well as the technical implementation.
The educational summit, which took place at the Dallas/Plano Marriott at Legacy Town Center in Plano, was sponsored by dozens of tolling experts and exhibitors who attended the event.
The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA), who will begin its system-wide transition to all-electronic toll collection this year, hosted the event. During the Summit, attendees participated in technical tour of NTTA facilities, followed by an unveiling of the NTTA’s comprehensive plan to transition to all-electronic toll collection.
As host, the NTTA provided numerous experts as moderators and speakers, including Assistant Executive Director of Operations Clayton Howe, Director of Information Technology Dave Pounds and Human Resources and Toll Collection Director Kiven Williams. In addition, NTTA Assistant Executive Director for Project Evaluation Susan Buse helped host the event in her role as president of the IBTTA Board of Directors.
The International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association is the worldwide association for the owners and operators of toll facilities and the businesses that support them. Founded in 1932, IBTTA is the only association representing the international toll industry, with members in 30 U.S. states and in 21 countries on five continents. Its members are leaders in technological innovation with expertise in the ways technology is reshaping road financing, organizational models and service delivery.
