Library Classes Continue

3 Ratings / 1 Comment

Rockwall County Library tutoring continues off site until the new facility opens with a ribbon cutting ceremony September 7th.

Long time community volunteer Jim Baird has set up his class with Ernesto and Elsa Castro at the Senior Center in order to keep the momentum going while the library is closed for moving. Ernesto and Elsa, who will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in October, moved to Rockwall from Bogota in South America in 1995 after he retired from Sears with 35 years experience. They chose Rockwall to be near five of their eight children who live in the area as well as nine of their 12 grand children, one of whom, Jason Castro, is a local celebrity and American Idol star! The Castros received their citizenship in 2000 and have been working on English proficiency classes with Jim Baird to enable them to become more active in the community.

Rockwall County Library offers tutoring for citizenship, literacy, SAT and all the other college prep study assists, self-study for real estate licenses, basic computer skills (e-mail, web searches, Word, etc.), and standardized testing with funding from the Friends of the Library (FOL) and the Capital Campaign.
