McKINNEY, Texas – Three McKinney ISD schools – Valley Creek Elementary, Faubion Middle School and Scott Johnson Middle School – were recently named to the prestigious 2008 Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) Honor Roll for having a consistent, high percentage of students meeting state standards on the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) test for an extended period of time.

The TBEC Honor Roll is the most prestigious award for sustained, academic excellence in Texas. Of the more than 8,000 Texas public schools less than four percent will be awarded this honor.

“We are extremely proud of Valley Creek, Faubion, and Scott Johnson because very few schools receive this honor each year,” said Dr. Virginia Cotton, McKinney ISD Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. “McKinney ISD has continued the tradition of having schools on the TBEC Honor Roll because every campus is dedicated to continuous improvement for all students. These three campuses are fine examples of the quality of education at secondary and elementary schools in MISD.”

The TBEC Honor Roll recognizes schools that have demonstrated high performance for three consecutive years in all subjects compared to others schools serving similar student populations.

TBEC places high regard on the highest percentage of students performing at a Commended level, the state’s most rigorous standard, in every subject. Student demographics, the number of subjects tested and the grade level of students at each school were also taken into consideration.

The Texas Business and Education Coalition will hold award ceremonies for the schools on November 11 in San Antonio. Representatives from the TBEC will also visit each school in the future to present the staff and students banners recognizing the school as a TBEC Honor Roll school.

The McKinneyIndependentSchool District consists of 19 elementary schools, four middle schools and three high schools.
