Make A Senior's Holiday Special

1 Rating / 0 Comments
“The time you take from your busy days to assemble the items speaks volumes of caring, loving and supporting others who need to be helped at various times in their lives.  May God Bless Each of You.”Juanice and Edward S. Collin County Meals on Wheels Client)

Collin County Committee on Aging (CCCoA) remembers the heartfelt gratitude of their Meals on Wheels clients as the agency prepares to launch this year’s holiday programs.  The program benefits 700 elderly recipients who receive Thanksgiving boxes, Secret Santa gifts, and holiday stockings.  Many of the CCCoA clients live below the poverty line, and for many of the Meals on Wheels clients, a volunteer visit is the only human contact they get during a typical day.

The agency is asking the community to consider participating in one or more of these commendable programs when planning fall and winter service projects.  This is a great project for Scout troops, Sunday school classes, service groups or individuals.  If you want information on these programs, please contact Lara Kitchens at 972-562-6996 extension 125. Additional information about the programs will soon be posted to the news and events section of www.cccoaweb.org .  Fall Harvest Boxes will be delivered in early November.  Due to the number of boxes needed and logistics for delivery, please contact Lara before October 3 to let her know how many boxes you will provide.  Please call the agency to receive a predetermined list of items for the boxes.  CCCoA requests that only computer paper boxes are used.  Completed boxes should be returned to CCCoA no later than October 17.

Secret Santa for Seniors is a program through which seniors make a personal request for gifts and volunteers purchase, wrap, and deliver the presents during December.  For many of the seniors, this will be the only gift they receive.  The gifts vary greatly and may be a sweater, a birdfeeder or a Wal-Mart card to help with prescriptions for example.  A minimum of $25.00 in value is requested.  Please call the office for the dates to pick up a gift tag with a senior’s “wish list” at 972-562-6996 ext. 125.  Wrapped gifts are due back at the agency no later than November 21.  McKinney’s Make a Difference Day, sponsored by Volunteer McKinney Center, plans to decorate 700 holiday stockings which will be delivered to the seniors in early December.  For many this will be the only holiday trimming they have in their homes.  Stockings are handmade and decorated.  CCCoA is requesting $5 donations to offset the expenses.

The Committee on Aging is a non-profit agency providing meals throughout CollinCounty to 700 homebound and isolated seniors daily.  Additionally, weekend and evening meals are available in the county through grants provided by Plano, McKinney and the Collin County Health Foundation.  The seniors receiving meals through the Meals on Wheels program are unable to shop and/or prepare a balanced meal.  Senior meal sponsorships are always gratefully accepted:  $27.50 will buy a senior’s noon meal for one week and $110.00 for one month. You may mail your donation to 600 N. Tennessee Street, McKinney, TX 75069 or donate online at www.cccoaweb.org.
