Have you ever wondered if your saddle fits your horse?
Saddles play an important role in effective communication between horse and rider. English and Western saddles are designed to help the horse and rider work together, but often the saddles cause needless pain. Sometimes saddle problems are misdiagnosed as behavior or attitude problems. Saddle fit should be considered as important as shoe fit in a person. Would you be happy if your shoes were one size too small?
Kiki Teague, proprietor of The Texas Tack Exchange and Next Level Riding, in association with the Rockwall County Rockin’ Riders 4H Club, will present a saddle fit clinic for horse owners and enthusiasts from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 11 at Falcon Equestrian Center, 15105 County Road 234 in Terrell. Certified equine massage therapist Kristin Porter will there to discuss saddle fit and muscle development. Admission is free for this hands-on clinic that also includes visual demonstrations on how to properly fit both English and Western saddles. Other topics include how to tell if your horse is mad, how a saddle is made and what your horse’s gait is telling you.
