Pumpkin Patch Opens For 20th Year.
October 4th was the date for the official start of the autumn season in Rockwall and the Pumpkin Patch located in Ridge Road Shopping Center, a joint volunteer effort by the Friends of the Library (FOL) and the Council of Catholic Women (CCW) ,was the site for the fall festivities.
The deli items had been made, the flowers delivered, the decorations displayed by the adults and tons of pumpkins, gourds, hay bales and cornstalks had been unloaded in a cooperative effort by students of RHS and RHHS.
The program began with a welcome by Marvis Kisselburgh, followed by the posting of the colors by Boy Scout Troop 83, presentation of a US Flag  and congratulatory remarks by Congressman Ralph Hall, who bought the traditional "first and last" pumpkin, comments by Mayor Bill Cecil, recognition of the founders of the Patch in 1988, Claudette Hatfield and Claudette Johnson, a performance by the RHS Stingerette Officers and the ribbon cutting by FOL president Leigh Plagens and Teddie Degelia president of CCW and Jean Gustafson Pumpkin Patch Steering Committee Chair.  Representative Jodie Laubenberg, who was out of state, sent a Texas Flag and a check for the 2nd pumpkin sale of the day.
Seasonal refreshments were served by Carol Windham. Balloons furnished by Wally's Party Factory drew attention to the location which is donated by Raymond Cameron and the children ran to the maze, their parents shopped and the fun began in earnest!
The Patch will be open daily from 9am - 7am through October 31st. Each Saturday will feature special children's activities.for more info, go to www.rockwallpumpkinpatch.com
