Going from Long to Short – Donating the in between hair

0 Ratings / 0 Comments

Are you or someone you know thinking of going from long hair to a shorter cut?   If yes, please read this before going to the salon.

What I did

I’m working on a new bookplus I have a website and a blog.  This means it is time to get an updated photo taken of me.  Before getting the photo, I wanted to get my hair put into an updated yet easy style since I travel a lot for my consulting, teaching, and speaking engagements.  I have had long hair for most of my adult life, so I was thinking it was time for a major change.  To help me be brave enough to go shorter, I decided to search on-line for places that might use my removed hair for others who have lost theirs due to illness.  I found an organization I wanted to donate to and then I looked for a local salon that would help me in the donation process.

Why I wrote this story

I went to get my haircut this week.  I had over 10 inches cut from my hair and then got a new stylish tapered cut that works as “wash and wear” or can be curled into a sophisticated style when the occasion warrants.  Now both my head and heart are lighter.  During my haircut, the stylist told me that hair donations where not as high as she had seen in the past.  So I thought I’d put this story out to spread the word.

What you can do

During the holiday season is a time when many people get new clothes and different hairstyles.  Changing your look can be drastic or small depending on your budget.  If you are considering making the big change from long hair to a shorter length, think about donating the hair that is removed.  There are lots of organizations that the hair can be donated to.  After selecting an organization to donate to, call different hairstylists in your area to see if they will make the proper cut and help with you the donation process.
