A bitterly cold wind blew through Dallas on the evening of November 20th, dropping the wind chill into the 30's. Many people won't venture out much during bone-chilling cold weather. But the award winning Sachse High School Swingsters varisty drill team stepped up to the plate and set the plaza at American Airlines Center on fire with a series of blazing hot performances.
Led by director Brittany Shaver, the team performed in AT&T Plaza at the AAC the evening of Nov 20th prior to the Dallas Stars game. They started with a team hip hop routine which had a rhythm and beat that kept the growing crowd of onlookers cheering and tapping their feet to the beat. Immediately after, the Swingsters officers performed, followed by the Senior Swingsters. The final performance in the series was the Team Pom routine that will be showcased during contest season in early 2009.
Prior to their performance, the Swingsters practiced briefly on the plaza and also stopped to watch the WFAA Channel 8 news team in their studio in AT&T Plaza where Gloria Campos was nice enough to come out and say hello to the girls. Later the Swingsters were escorted through the AAC to an area for them to stretch and practice. During the practice session, the Swingsters were surprised by a visit from five of the Dallas Stars Ice Girls who watched the girls practice for a bit before posing with them for a few photos.
After entertaining the crowds in AT&T Plaza, the Swingsters went as a group to watch and support the Dallas Stars hockey team as they took on the Chicago Blackhawks. The Swingsters were acknowledged by the Stars on the prostar screens with a welcome message, birthday messages to those Swingsters with birthdays that week, and in the 3rd period, they showed the Swingsters live on the prostar screen.
At the end of the game, the Swingsters were escorted to the Dallas Stars' bench for a brief photo op before leaving for the evening.
The Swingsters would like to thank the Dallas Stars for their warmth, hospitality, and generousity as well as their assistance with the Swingsters' fundraising efforts. Go Stars!
