Grandparents Helping The Community
The RockwallNursingCenter residents recently formed the Grandparents Helping the Community group and immediately decided to have a project to demonstrate their dedication to generosity. The Resident’s Council, led by resident and Council President Kaye Stanley, voted to reach a goal of raising $250 for the new Rockwall County Library’s Capital Campaign by having a Halloween Carnival fundraiser.
Over 150 people, including residents, staff and their families turned out for an enjoyable time. Residents got behind the benevolence by assisting in working in the 7 booths during the event, cooking turkey legs and other food items plus donating their own money.
Sandra Legg, Ativities Director, remarked on the fun event, “The most popular game was throwing wet sponges at Dennis Ferguson, our administrator. The staff and residents had so much fun and Dennis was a good sport.”
Valeria Shelby, Director of Nursing, who once worked in a library commented, “I love libraries and reading and I think this was a great fundraiser.”
Grandparents Helping the Community exceeded their goal of $250 and donated $300 to Capital Campaign Chair Nancy Rothacker recently. The Giving Tree, located in the new library’s entry, will sprout a new leaf because of the Rockwall Nursing Centers giving Grandparents.
