On November 12, McKinneyChristianAcademy held a blessing ceremony for their new StudentLifeCenter. Students, faculty, staff, parents and friends gathered in the 28,000 sq. foot building with permanent markers in hand to write their blessings on the actual walls of the building. The ceremony began with Keith Bollinger, Upper School Head offering a prayer, followed by encouraging words from Amy Smith, Board Chairwoman, Eric Ciskowski from Jim Wilson Architects and concluded with everyone writing their prayers and blessings on the SLC cement walls.
Students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade Twelve, along with their teachers and parents, wrote Bible verses, personal prayers and blessings for MCA. They also walked through the empty building learning of all the activities and educational programs that will take place within its walls in just a few short months. In addition to the hundreds of Bible verses and blessings, each class brought a time capsule with items they felt represented their lives in 2008. Some students included notes to the future students of MCA, describing their daily lives at MCA, their home lives and their personal testimonies of faith. Seventh graders made a video entitled, “What do You Think the Future will be Like?” Others included pictures of themselves and their friends, as well as class photos, personal poetry, CDs of popular music, as well as a copy of the school newspaper. Eighth graders made a collage entitled, “Hands of the Class of 2013” to include. The time capsules will be placed within a special wall of the SLC with a commemorative plaque marking their location.
