LOCAL SONGWRITERS RISE TO TOP
After eight years trying to break into the music biz in Greece, lead singer and guitarist, George Miadis, arrived in the U.S. from Greece with his old friend, songwriter and guitarist, Bill Mantza (Vasileios Mantzanas), just two short years ago. George Miadis came to the U.S. to polish the band and receive training to produce their own original music album. He researched sound engineering and music training facilities in New York and LA, but found them to costly. "Texas was the best opportunity, and the Dallas MediaTech Institute recording arts program was the premier recording and video arts facility in Texas," states Miadis.
After meeting future band members, his classmate in Mediatech and bass player, Daniel Schmuck, Irving resident and drummer, Roy Oteo, Miadis invited his friend Vasileios to the US to start working on the band’s developing. The group soon had a following playing in many local venues and events including The Wildflower Festival where they opened up for well known bands such as Seven Mary Three, the Guess Who and Blue Oyster Cult. "We decided to name the band Epitas which is an ancient Greek saying coming from two words ‘epi tas’. When Spartan warriors went to war the women would say ‘ I tan I epi tas’ which means ‘come back with your shield or on it’ meaning come back victorious or dead because they did not believe in retreating. This is our philosophy developing our English rock alternative album. I said I am going to America and get the best training available to succeed in the music industry and the band will succeed," states Miadis.
Their debut album, Epitas, has been released as an independent production and is available in some local stores, online at Itunes and Amazon.com, and can be seen on www.myspace.com/epitas. Well known LA studio owner and music producer Sylvia Massy saw the myspace clip, and invited the group to LA to talk possible record deals. "Sylvia has worked with some of the top names in music including Tool, System Of a Down, Johnny Cash and Tom Petty. "We plan to take all our knowledge from MediaTech on how to promote our band, press kits, record production and the business of music and get in the game. The next level is a record deal," states Miadis.
The MediaTech Institute is located 400 E. Royal Lane, Irving, Texas. For more information go to www.mediatechinstitute.com or call 866.498.1122.
