The Classical Center at Brandenburg Honors Band Invited to Perform at the Texas State Capitol
The Classical Center at Brandenburg Middle School Honors Band has been invited to perform at Texas State Capitol in Austin on March 9, 2009 by the Texas Coalition for Quality Arts in Education. This is a wonderful opportunity for our band students and an honor to be recognized at such an important event. An invitation to perform at the event acknowledges the outstanding program and musical success the band program has achieved. The band will perform “Amazing Grace,” arranged by Frank Tichelli in the rotunda of the capitol building. Kelley Vanhook, head band director says, “Playing this beautiful hymn in the rotunda will create a breathtaking moment. It will sound as if we’re playing in a cathedral. What a wonderful memory for our band students!” Later in the day the band will perform on the South steps of the capitol building where the band will play selections from its upcoming contest season. Following the performance, the band will have a special meet-n-greet with legislators Joe Driver, Angie Button, and Robert Miklos. While in Austin the band will also visit the capitol with guided tours, explore the Bob Bullock Museum, and many other exciting events are included on the itinerary. The Brandenburg Band continues to represent Garland as a superior program that offers students wonderful performance opportunities. Playing at the Texas State Capitol will no doubt be highlight of the school year!
