The St. Pius X Catholic School 6th Grade Class visited Shoes for Orphan Souls January 22nd and February 6, 2009.
The Project headed up by 6th grade science teacher Ms. Rebecca Sutton and homeroom mom Karen Taylor traveled to the facility and on their first visit wrote personalized messages to the orphans who would receive a pair of shoes. On their second visit in February, the students took the new shoes out of the boxes, sorted them based on age, gender and size.
Shoes for Orphan Souls distributed more than 1.6 million pairs of new shoes to at-risk children in the United Statesand to orphans in 55 countries around the world. While our program has made a difference in many lives, there are still millions of children we can reach – all through a pair of shoes. We are seeking donations of new shoes, socks and shoelaces from individuals, corporations, churches and civic groups. (from theirwebsite)
In total, the students provided many hours of community service, and did so with a giving heart and a smile on their face. The students of SPX School strive to live the church motto "LOVE ONE ANOTHER" every day.
