2009 Neighbors Choice Awards

As the community relations coordinator for neighborsgo, I often describe myself as our newspaper's No. 1 cheerleader.

Many of you can probably relate - why else would you share news from your communities with us every day on neighborsgo.com if you didn't want others to know how proud you are of where you live, work and play?

Now it's time to put your civic pride to the test - or the vote, rather.

Our second annual Neighbors Choice Awards is up and running at neighborsgo.com/vote through April 24. We want to know what your favorite local establishments are - the places you go to eat, shop, get in shape, have fun with the family and more. To cast your votes, log on, find your community and type in your choices under each listed category. (No computer? No problem - call us at 214-977-8649, and we'll mail you a ballot.)

Some of my favorite accessories and the most delicious meals I've had have come from locally owned businesses. They provide our cities with life and personality but are often overshadowed by the larger chains.

Now more than ever, we can support each other and recognize those businesses that help define our communities. This is why we are asking that you please vote only for locally owned and operated establishments in the communities in which you live.

After all, we are your community newspaper, distinct across 18 weekly editions that cover 39 areas but united by one concept: an overriding appreciation for the celebration of all communities.

How perfect is it then, that we would seek the best places and things to do in our communities by going to the experts - YOU?

So visit neighborsgo.com/vote to cast your ballot and post your reviews.

Then pick up a copy of our June 12 results editon to see who won in your area, staff-written profiles on some of the winners and to read additional reviews by your neighbors.

New to this year's vote is a friendly competition for all communities: We will recognize the city that had the most voters across all 18 editions. So be sure to encourage your family members, neighbors, co-workers and friends to vote.

Support your local businesses and show us your community pride by voting in the 2009 Neighbors Choice Awards!

I have spirit, yes I do! I have spirit, how 'bout you?
