U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-Dallas) today announced that Trevor Hodges and Stephen Katrein of RichardsonHigh School and Christopher Stephens and Bennett Thomas of J.J.PearceHigh School in Richardson, Texas, have recently accepted appointments to three of the nation’s service academies. Trevor Hodges will be attending West PointAcademy; Stephen Katrein and Christopher Stephens will be attending the Air Force Academy; and Bennett Thomas will be attending the NavalAcademy.

Congressman Sessions, who represents the Thirty-Second Congressional District, has taken a special interest in the appointment of students from Texas to the nation’s finest military academies.  Sessions supports maintaining a strong and agile national defense and believes that our armed services can be only as strong as the men and women who serve within their ranks.

“These students have received my nominations because they have demonstrated commitment to the high standards of academic performance, personal fitness, and moral character that are required for admission to our nation’s military academies,” Sessions said.  “I am confident that they will make our Texas community proud as they represent us in two of our nation’s finest academic institutions.  Americans today face an evolving world.  I am glad to know that these young men will be among those very dedicated individuals helping to ensure the security of our nation and the values we hold dear.”

Each year, numerous applicants request appointments to our nation’s service academies, but only a select few are appointed.  Students requesting a nomination from Congressman Sessions are evaluated on a variety of criteria including academic background, physical ability, personal recommendations, and an evaluation and ranking by the Academy Selection Board.

“I wish all these students the very best as members of the class of 2013,” Sessions said.  “They represent the very best of Texas.  I am very proud of these four young men, and their family, classmates, friends, teachers, and community can be proud as well.”

Sessions considers the nomination of selected students to our nation’s service academies to be among his most important congressional responsibilities.  Service academy graduates will lead the effort to maintain the strength and commitment of America’s armed forces and will play leading roles in ensuring America’s security in the coming years.

Thirty-Second District residents who are interested in seeking a nomination to a military academy are invited to write to Congressman Pete Sessions, Park Central VII, Suite 1434, 12750 Merit Drive, Dallas, Texas 75251, Attention: Sandra Pappas; or to call 972-392-0505.
