Six members of UniversityPark-based Troop 70 recently were awarded the Eagle Scout honor, Boy Scouts ofAmerica’s highest rank. The troop’s newest Eagles were recognized at a specialEagle ceremony held during the troop’s May 4 Court of Honor and receptionfollowing the awards event.
In order to attain thehighest rank in Scouting, the six young men - Max Bremer, Adam Goldman, PrestonHino, Will Meachum, Grant Moore and Jackson Tittle - qualified by completing a number of stringent requirements.
Like other Eagle Scouts before them,they had to finish all preceding ranks, participate in camp and leadershipactivities, earn a number of required and elective merit badges and complete anapproved Eagle project, one that benefits the community and requires leadershipskills.
For his Eagle project, MaxBremer, the son of Andreas and Nicola Bremer, designed and constructed newflower planters for the Christ Lutheran Child Development Center. He alsoraised funds for the flowers and planted them with the children of the center.Max is the son of Andreas and Nicola Bremer and is an incoming senior atHighland Park High School.
Max Goldman builtbookshelves to benefit the Rainbow Room of Child Protective Services. Spanishand English library-quality books were donated to fill the shelves. Max is theson of Ellen Sher and Stan Goldman, and will be a junior at St. Mark’s Schoolof Texas.
Preston Hino refurbished alarge donated wooden swing set and later transported and reassembled it for useat the Hope in Salvation Bridge Builders children’s Bible study. A second team of volunteers wasorganized to create a playground walkway. Preston is the son of Peter andBarenda Hino and will be a junior at HPHS.
Will Meachum Jr. worked with AudubonDallas and the National Audubon Society to construct and install wood ducknesting boxes in the Old Fish Hatchery nature preserve at White Rock Lake. An incoming senior at HPHS, Will is theson of Eloise and Robert Meachum.
Grant Moore constructed a largemobile storage unit for the University Park Elementary School gym. The unit added much needed storagespace and will be used to store protective carpets that are sometimes used in thegym. Grant just finished the 11th grade at HPHS and is the son ofLiz Miller and Skip Moore.
Jackson Tittle also chose UPElementary as his project’s beneficiary. He designed, raised funds and led the construction of several large gardenbeds in which he planted flowers, bushes and trees. Jackson is the son of Benand Stacey Tittle and is an incoming freshman at HPHS.
In addition to the recognition of thesesix Scouts, the troop also celebrated rank advancements, merit badgecompletions and a number of special awards, including top scout. That award wasgiven to Will Shaw, son of Ann and Bob Shaw. The award is called the AubreyPollard Award, so named for a former Troop 70 member who was killed in actionduring the Korean War. It is given annually to the individual who has giventirelessly and shown great leadership.
Troop 70 is one of BSA’s oldest continuously chartered troops, dating tothe 1930s. It meets at University Park Elementary School Monday nights duringthe school year. For more information or to join, visit www.troop70.org.
