Sunday, April 26, twelve Webelos Cub Scouts of Pack 84, chartered by Robert S.HyerElementary School, received their Arrow of Light badges during an afternoon ceremony at Curtis Park.  Arrow of Light is the highest Cub Scout rank and is the only Cub Scout badge that can be worn on a Boy Scout uniform.

Arrow of Light recipients were:  Sean Anderson, Spencer Cooke, Sammy Heasley, Mitchell Helms, Jacob Hum, Matthew Meletio, Samuel Miller, Cole Stevens, Coner Swift, George Wheeler, Gayden Williams and Sean Wolfe.  Ten of the boys have been together in Cub Scouts since second grade with Den Leaders Cres Heasley, Valerie Meletio, Julie Miller and Holly Wheeler.

Pack 84 Cubmaster and Committee Chairman Valerie Meletio encouraged the boys to continue their high level of achievement in everyday life, live by Cub Scout ideals, especially the Cub Scout motto: “Do Your Best,” and, for those going on to Boy Scouts, earn the Eagle Scout Award.  Following her remarks, she gave each Scout his Arrow of Light badge and certificate, along with a Texas State flag flown over the Texas Capitol, a gift from his family, and a congratulatory letter from Gov. Rick Perry.

Master of Ceremonies Kent Metzger, wearing Native American dress, congratulated the boys for completing Webelos requirements and earning the Arrow of Light Award, and presented each Scout his honor arrow.  Den Leaders removed Webelos neckerchiefs and Cub Scout shoulder tabs from the Scouts’ uniform shirts.  Then, the Scouts crossed the Curtis Park bridge, symbolically leaving Cub Scouts to join their selected Boy Scout Troops.
