Garland
Neighbors Choice: Sachse Mustang gains popularity in district

0 Ratings / 0 Comments

Though it is one of the newer schools in Garland ISD and District 10-5A, Sachse’s mascot, the Mustang, has gained popularity in the area. Michelle Bardin, president of Sachse’s drill team booster club, let neighborsgo know about Mustang pride that has caught on in 2009.

How long has the Sachse Mustang mascot been in the area?
The Sachse Mustang mascot made its debut when the school first opened its doors less than seven years ago on August 19, 2002, and consisted of 815 students in ninth and 10th grades. The first graduating class was in 2005.

Why do you think your mascot was named a Neighbors Choice award winner by our readers?
I think that the Mustang was chosen for this award because the school has a growing group of Mustang supporters and alumni in the area who are eager to show their Sachse Mustang pride.

What is your reaction to being chosen for this award – are you surprised?
Yes, I was very surprised, to be honest. Sachse High School is one of the newest schools in the Garland/Wylie/Sachse area, so there are numerous other more-established mascots that I thought might have been chosen. However, with so many active Mustang supporters in the area anxious to make their voices heard, you can’t ever rule out the Mustangs.

Why do you view this award as worthwhile?
This just reaffirms what I think everyone at Sachse High School already knew – we have a GREAT school that we are extremely proud of, with an outstanding group of teachers and administrators, a wonderful and supportive community and students that are second to none.

What do you think winning this award will change for visibility for the school’s athletics programs?
I believe this award will help us continue to build up the recognition of the Sachse Mustangs.

What is the most important thing (or two) for our readers to know about your mascot and Mustang Pride?
The Mustang is known to be a very intelligent horse that learns quickly and is also a protected symbol of freedom. But to many, it is also a symbol of resilience and endurance. Those are all admirable qualities well represented at Sachse High School, making the Mustang a perfect choice as mascot.

Closing remarks?

On behalf of Sachse High School, I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude to the readers of neighborsgo for choosing the Sachse Mustang as the Best School Mascot and to neighborsgo for the award. We greatly appreciate it!
