Eleven years ago, Senior Pastor Chuck Swindoll’s vision for Stonebriar Community Church became a reality.
The congregation started meeting at Collin County Community College in 1998.
“We were having services in the gym. People were sitting in yard chairs,” said Les Fleetwood, pastor of connecting and equipping. “And the children, youth and adult Sunday school classes were spread out throughout the campus.”
The church’s first building, with a 1,500-seat auditorium, opened in 2001. Seven years later, construction on the new worship center was started to accommodate twice as many people, Fleetwood said.
Now, about 4,200 adults and 1,500 kids and youth attend on Sundays.
A typical service at Stonebriar Community Church consists of a tradition worship service with a full choir and orchestra and, of course, the preachin’. Sunday school classes are based on age and stage of life, and small groups meet in homes during the week.
The church has a full children’s ministry and youth ministry, a ministry for children and adults with special needs and a Hispanic ministry that meets on site.
“Our mission is encouraging all people to pursue a lifelong, joyous relationship with Christ,” Fleetwood said.
