STAFF REPORT
Dickens of a Christmas was chosen by our readers as the winner of this year’s Neighbor’s Choice award as “Best Local Event” for the neighborsgo edition covering McKinney.
It was the second consecutive year the festival won the reader vote in this category.
Ty Lake, program director of McKinney Main Street, said she felt “humbled and honored” by the selection, adding, “There are so many wonderful events held in our great city on a monthly basis.”
We also invited Lake to tell our readers more about the 29-year-old festival.
Why do you think Dickens of a Christmas was named a Choice award winner?
The event is a celebration of our community heritage and our citizens. We take great pride in insuring that as McKinney continues to grow by leaps and bounds, the very thing that made us who we are stays in tact for generations to come … our wonderful history.
What do you think this award says about the festival?
This award says so much to so many. We have over 128 businesses, many dedicated volunteers, the
Main Street board, our city council and the City of McKinney staff to thank for going above and beyond to ensure that Dickens remains a mainstay for years to come. Why do you view this award as worthwhile?
Anytime your readers vote on their favorites, I think it is important that we all take time to listen, take note and improve so that we can do the best that we can for our community.
What is the most important thing for our readers to know about Dickens of a Christmas?
The 29th annual Dickens of a Christmas: Home for the Holidays will be held on Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 27-29, in historic Downtown McKinney, beginning the day after Thanksgiving at 10 a.m.
What advice would you offer to others who aspire to be a Choice winner?
I wish them the best of luck, as it is always an honor to be recognized by our community.
