The Allen USA Celebration debuted to rave reviews from residents in 1995 – boasting an inaugural attendance of more than 5,000.

What seemed like success in 1995, now seems small time with crowds exceeding 60,000 annually after moving the event to Celebration Park in 2003.

The family fun includes inflatables, crafts, concessions, kids’ zone, fireworks show and, most importantly, live music.

Allen Parks and Recreation seeks local and mainstream musical entertainment for event goers each year – welcoming Smash Mouth to the main stage on June 27.
 Tony Hill, Allen Parks and Recreation resource development manager, answered our questions about the award.

How long has your event been happening in Allen? 
14 years.

What is the most important thing for our Allen readers to know about your event?
Allen USA truly enhances our sense of community. Centered on the theme of being “First to the Fourth,” it is uniquely held on the last Saturday of June every year. Being the last Saturday in June allows the event to be a stand out among area cities’ celebrations and promotes attendance locally, regionally and state-wide. Produced as a cooperative effort between the City of Allen and the Allen Parks Foundation, this is the largest community event annually (with an expected attendance of more than 65,000 people this year).

Why do you think Allen USA was named “best local event” by our Allen readers?
Our ability to produce a high quality event at a low cost has helped us stand out and gain respect with Allen residents, especially in these economic times.

What is your reaction to being chosen – are you surprised?
We are extremely honored to have received this prestigious award; being recognized by the community for our hard work and dedication makes receiving this award worthwhile.

What do you think this award says about your event? 
It shows that we have achieved our commitment to the community to produce a high quality event that everyone can enjoy.

What do you think this award will change for your event?
This is an additional accolade for our sponsors that increases the value of their participation and shows them just how much Allen residents appreciate all they do to help make this event possible. 

What would you say to others who might aspire to be a Neighbors Choice award winner next year? 
Deliver remarkable service by empowered employees that creates amazing experiences resulting in lasting impressions.

Many people have said that it’s the memories they create at Allen USA that keeps them coming back year after year. The family friendly reputation of this event is what grabs other’s attention to attend for the first time.
