When thinking about where to purchase kids’ clothing, or about which retailer would offer the “best” in children’s apparel locally, Allen Community Outreach’s Resale Shop isn’t the first guess many people would give.
Nevertheless, with the last vote tallied, there is no denying ACO’s shop as winner.
The result may reflect the current economic condition – residents looking for more affordable clothing – or it might just reflect the charitable mindset of the Allen community.
Resale Shop proceeds fund ACO programs, which care for needy families in Allen, Fairview and Lucas.
So, while clothing a child in gently used garments might not be the standard, it might just be the most rewarding.
How long has your organization been in Allen?
Since 1985.
What is the most important thing for our Allen readers to know about your organization?
We are the sole local provider of free human services for Allen, Lucas, and Fairview. The recession has hit affluent Collin County and the face of need and desperation looks just like you or I. We must help each other.
Why do you think your organization was named “Best Kids’ Apparel” by our Allen readers?
We are the only thrift store in Allen, Fairview, and Lucas that carries more than just clothing, along with house wares and furniture, plus we have a half-price book selection. All proceeds benefit ACO and all of the stock is completely donated.
What is your reaction to being chosen – are you surprised?
Wonderful! We are delighted that more and more people are shopping in our Resale Shop to save money while supporting the mission of ACO.
What do you think this award says about you/your business or organization? That we are being recognized for our service to the community as well as being able to provide a retail shop with affordable prices to the public as well as providing vouchers for families who need assistance with their clothing needs.
Why do you view this award as worthwhile?
We live in a very caring and generous community and this is just another way of “real people helping real people.”
What do you think this will change for your business/organization?
Hopefully, more people will bring their gently used clothing, house wares, and furniture to the ACO Resale Shop.
What would you say to others who might aspire to be a Neighbors Choice award winner next year?
Be good stewards of what you do and always be transparent for your investors!
