Mama’s Daughters’ Diner is just what it claims to be.
The family-owned diner goes back to 1958 when owner Laurie Bowers’ mother started a little café in Oak Cliff. Nine years ago, Mama’s Daughters’ Diner opened in Lewisville, serving only homemade meals.
The family’s recipes are used in two Dallas locations and one in Irving as well.
“We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner six days a week,” Laurie Bowers said.

The top-five menu items:

1. Chicken-fried chicken: Flattened chicken breast, hand-breaded and deep-fried.

2. Catfish: A hand-breaded piece of catfish – fresh.

3. Chicken-fried steak: Homemade.

4. Chicken and dressing: Comes with giblet gravy and cranberry sauce. Served every Friday.

5. Meatloaf: Served with red tomato sauce. No brown gravy.

Plates come with three homemade vegetables.
“We peel our own potatoes and mash them with butter,” Bowers said. “And all of our bread and dough for pies, cream pies, rolls and corn bread is also made from scratch. Nothing is already cooked and frozen.”
