Richardson Boy Scout Troop 720 Presents Eagle Award to Third Son of Terry Fear

“Nine years, three Eagles, one Dad,” proclaimed Tim Fear in a special presentation to his father, Terry Fear, during the Eagle Court of Honor of Boy Scout Troop 720 on Sunday, June 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Richardson.

Tim, age 20, was joined by his two brothers, Andrew, 17, and Matthew, 14, as they acknowledged their father’s involvement and guidance throughout their years of Scouting.  Matthew is the last boy in the Fear family to achieve the Eagle Rank, and the youngest Scout in Troop 720 to have earned this distinction.

Tim said, “We looked it up and there are not many people who have three Eagle Scouts in the same family.  This is obviously very special to me, and to my family.”

He continued, “As you have heard, a Scout is trustworthy and loyal, among other things.  In the end he’s still a boy, he is a young man.  He still has his whole life ahead of him.  He really does not know yet what he wants to do, and it’s easy for him to get mixed up in other things going through junior high and high school.  You want to do football, you’re in the band, you have girlfriends, and it’s really hard to stay focused.  For the three of us, we’ve all been through that, and there was always our Dad to look on.  He’s really helped us.”

Tim added, “I kind of came up with this saying -- it’s not quite accurate; I think it’s more like ten years, but it sounds better this way:  ‘9 Years, 3 Scouts, 1 Dad.’  That’s really how we feel.  I know for us, no matter even though we have the pins, and we’re the ones that show it, my Dad will be as much of an Eagle Scout as any of us will ever be in our lives.”

The boys presented several gifts to their father amid a round of applause from a teary-eyed audience.  Terry has served Troop 720 over the years as Scoutmaster, Quartermaster, Videographer/Photographer, Eagle Advisor, and Advancement Chair.

Matthew began his Scouting career in 2001 as a Tiger Cub in Pack 898 at Jess Harben Elementary School.  In April 2006, he earned his Arrow of Light award and joined his two older brothers in Troop 720.  His Eagle project was to improve the Jess Harben playground surface and to add a walking track for students.  He will enter Berkner High School as a freshman in the fall.
