It’s easy to understand why Richardson High School graduate Bushra Salama has been chosen to receive this year’s scholarship from St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church. The scholarship is based on need, past accomplishments and plans for the future.
Not only did Bushra rank 3rd in the 2009 Senion Class of 498, she is an accomplished musician as well as a scholar. She has been the principal clarinetist for Richardson High School Symphony Orchestra and was selected for the American Bandmasters Association (ABA) Band. Also, she is a member of the French Club, National French Honor Society, National Honor Society and Writers’ Guild.
A few sentences from Bushra’s essay submitted with her scholarship application explain her strong feelings for science and math:
"Insatiable curiosity is my downfall – most of my adolescent free-time was consumed brooding over the impossibility of choosing one vocation.
"Thankfully, my problems were solved. I simply took calculus, and the epiphany came on its own. There is only one science that connects the entire world: math.
"It was beautiful."
Bushra plans to enter college in the Fall to pursue her dream of becoming a chemical engineer
