Volunteers continued the siding installation and the trim painting on July 25. They also continued the interior finish and door installation for the duplex being constructed in the Douglass Community of Plano by Thrivent Builds in conjunction Habitat for Humanity - South Collin County.
Volunteers from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairview provided the volunteers with sandwiches, chips and drinks for lunch. They claimed to have stayed up all night with the preparation, but since the sub sandwiches were wrapped with logo paper from an area restaurant, this statement was doubted by the other volunteers.
Richard Ludwinski of Fairview, a member of Immanuel, was there with his children Joey and Grace to help with the painting. He said that his “family has been very blessed and fortunate and that it is important to give back.
”The homes are being constructed for Dessie Stimpson McKinzie and for Minte and Mimi Gebru. HfH-SCC is partnering with area Lutheran churches to build the homes. The work will continue for approximately another 3 weeks.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is providing 65% of the costs of the home, HfH-SCC 25% of the costs and local chapters and churches will raise the remaining 10%. The home will be built by area volunteers, of whom at least one-half will be Lutheran and one-fourth will be Thrivent Financial members. The Habitat partner family will also invest 400 hours of “sweat equity” helping to build their home.
Fundraisers and volunteer sign ups are continuing to be held at local Lutheran churches throughout Collin County. For more information contact Jill Smola, Development Director, Habitat for Humanity - South Collin County at 972-398-0634.
