Troop 57 Goes Fishing

1 Rating / 0 Comments

Troop 57 went fishing September 18-20 near Sulphur Bluff, Texas.  The troop also invited Webelos from several Cub Scout packs to attend the campout.  Seventy Boy Scouts, Webelos, and adults attended.  Over 200 fish were caught.  The Scouts cleaned and prepared some of the fish and enjoyed a fish fry on Saturday night.  Troop 57 Assistant Scoutmaster Rodney Amyx served as merit badge counselor for Fishing Merit Badge and was in charge of the campout.

Other activities included an orienteering course, hiking, tetherball, horseshoes, and volleyball.  After dark Saturday, the Scouts held a campfire with skits and stories.  Sunday morning chapel service was a very moving experience in the beautiful outdoor setting.

Upcoming Troop 57 monthly campouts will include pumpkin’ chunkin’, Webelos Woods, wilderness survival, and rifle and shotgun shooting.

Troop 57 has been chartered by First United Methodist Church Garland since 1945.  The troop has a membership of 75 active Scouts and 40 registered adults.  Troop 57 will be celebrating 65 years of Scouting service and the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America with a reunion at First United Methodist Church on February 13, 2010.  All alumni and friends of Troop 57 are invited to attend.
