Jasper Jazz Begins Season With Show-Stopping Performance

1 Rating / 0 Comments

Jasper High School’s Jasper Jazz drill team dazzled the crowd at the school’s first home game against Williams HS at Plano’s Clark Stadium. The 46 Jazz dancers performed an exhilarating halftime routine to the popular 1970’s hit, “Disco Inferno” played by the Jasper Marching Band. The girls wore eye-catching, flowing yellow skirts that lit up the entire football field as they danced in precision.

To kick off the football season, Jasper Jazz made their first public appearance at the school’s pep rally, held the night before the first home football game.  To cheer on the team, Jasper Jazz performed an energetic pom routine to “I Like the Way.”

Jasper Jazz has been preparing for a full 2009 – 2010 season since June.  The five dance officers joined other area drill teams at Encore Creative Productions Officer Camp in Rockwall, Texas.  They learned innovative choreography and were recognized for their excellent technique as well as for their intermediate jazz and modern dance skills.  Assistant Director, Kathy Conklin accompanied the girls to camp.  The dedicated team of dancers and managers came together for Officer Workshops and Line Camp for the remainder of the month.  Line Camp concluded with a “Show-Off” performance for friends and family on June 27.

Jen Morrow, Jasper Jazz Drill Team Director, is thrilled with the team’s dedication this year. "This team arrives for practice at 6:50 a.m. and is ready to start dancing by 7:00 a.m.! Practicing in the morning is something new for Jasper Jazz, and I must say I was a little nervous about the level of energy the girls would have this early!  Instead, all 51 girls come to practice each day with smiles on their faces and energy like I have never seen in any other team!  The girls have been working so hard, and they are ready to show that Jasper Jazz is truly the best drill team in Plano, Texas!"

Don’t miss Jasper Jazz performances as the remaining Jasper home football games.  You can count on more crowd-pleasing routines from this drill team!
