The South Garland High School AVID students took the initiative to volunteer with Susan K. Gomen’s Race for the Cure on behalf of the breast cancer patients and survivors. Race for the Cure was held on October 17, 2009, at NorthparkCenter in Dallas, Texas. The AVID students, the AVID coordinator Mrs. Novotny, and the 9th grade AVID elective teacher Mrs. Moses came together to cheer, motivate, and show support for the racers and breast cancer patients and survivors. We realized how much breast cancer impacts our society today and hope that we helped raise awareness. We plan to continue being involved in supporting these types of events on behalf of the teachers and counselor who have been diagnosed at SouthGarlandHigh School.
