RISD histories selling out quickly: order yours today through RRTA
A RedBrickSchool House: Where RISD history began tells the beginning stories of the 50 Richardson schools and hopefully serves as a foundation for their future history.
“Our hope is to encourage each RISD school to continue to write its own history each year,” said Sarah Scott, one of the five teachers involved in compiling the book. “Knowing one’s history helps build a successful future.” Compiled by members of the Richardson Retired Teacher’s Association, the 384-page book also comes in DVD and CD format. Educator, Bill Passmore (former Lake Highlands Elementary, RichardsonHigh School and Merriman Park Elementary principal) had the idea for the project which took seven years from start to completion. Former RISD staffers, Dot Biggs, LHHS English teacher; Marian M. King, Hamilton Park Elementary music teacher; Joann Zastoupil, RHI executive assistant; and Sarah Scott, RHS journalism teacher, compiled the information.
The books are now on sale for $25 (checks payable to RRTA or cash( with the DVD or CD costing $15. Any profit made from the project will be used for college scholarships for RISD graduates and for RISD teachers to further their education.
