Mountain View College aims to increase transfers to four - year institutions

0 Ratings / 0 Comments
A Voluntary Mechanical Engineering Compact between Mountain View College and the University of Texas at Arlington was signed on  Oct. 23. The primary mission of the compact is to establish a program of study at the community college level that will increase the number of community college transfers to four-year institutions. Mountain View College students will soon begin taking engineering courses on their campus, as well as the University of Texas at Arlington campus, in pursuit of bachelor's degrees in mechanical engineering.

Another goal of the compact is to increase the number of engineers in Texas by making engineering education more available and affordable. The compact was made possible by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board with grant support from the Lumina Foundation for Education's Making Opportunity Affordable Initiative.

MVC's Dr. Karen Valencia, Executive Dean, Allied Health and Physical Education, worked as a member of a Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Committee that developed the program and agreement.
